Shakespeare 400

A screen printed calendar to celebrate 400 years of Shakespeare.

05/2016

2016 marked the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. The concept is based around modern day phrases, which were created by Shakespeare himself and used throughout his plays over 400 years ago. "Wear my heart upon my sleeve." Othello, 1603 is used to symbolise Valentine's Day in February. "For goodness sake." Henry VIII, 1613 is used in June; this is the month The Globe Theatre caught fire in 1613 during a production of Henry VIII.

Inspiration was taken from Type: A Visual History of Typefaces and Graphic Styles (Taschen) and The Little Book of Typographic Ornament (David Jury). The calendar uses typographic ornamentation and a combination of Caslon and ornamental borders.
